Help The Poor, Obasanjo Tells Wealthy Nigerians

A former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has
appealed to wealthy Nigerians to please look the
way of less-privileged Nigerians this season and
beyond. Obasanjo made this statement at a carol
service he organised in Abeokuta while preparing to
usher in Christmas, pleading that it will go a long way if they do. "I want to appeal to the rich in the society to
always remember the less-privileged in the society.
There are many children without hope out there. We
should come to their aid. There are boys and girls in
our communities with such problem," he said.

What A Pity Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Television Station Shut Down Over Tax Inclination

Officials of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS,
have shut down Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Infinity
Television station for owing the state government
several millions of naira. Infinity TV, located on 16, Moyibat Oyefusi Street,
Omole Phase 1, is a Direct To Home, DTH cable TV
incorporated in 2009 by the Pastor Chris. It is also
said that the management of the Tv station, are
owing their workers up to 10 months salaries. The station was shut down on the 23rd of December, 2014.

According to a report by Forbes, Dangote, Tony Elumelu and Jim Ovia lost a lot of money as a result of

A few weeks ago, the Governor of the Central Bank of
Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, announced a nearly 10%
devaluation of the Naira, Nigeria's currency, after
admitting that a plunge in world oil prices and
dwindling dollar reserves were making it difficult to
defend the value of the currency. The Naira is now trading at N187 to $1, compared to N165 in
November. In dollar terms, the devaluation has
knocked more than $40 billion off the value of
Nigeria's economy.

Dangote is the biggest loser among Nigeria's richest
people as the Naira's slump, coupled with falling
stock prices, has erased more than $7.8b of his
fortune since Feb, when Forbes locked in the values
for its annual ranking of the World's Billionaires.

Dangote was worth $25 billion at the time; as of
market close on Tuesday, he's worth $17.2 billion.
More than half of the drop in his fortune has
happened since early November. As of Nov. 7,
Dangote was worth $21.6 billion, $4.4 billion more
than now.

Here's why: The last few weeks have been a bit of
a disaster for many companies listed on the Nigerian
Stock Exchange. Several blue-chip stocks such as
Dangote Cement, Zenith Bank, Transcorp and United
Bank of Africa among several others have hit one-
year-lows as a result of the fall in oil prices, a general uncertainty regarding the 2015 general elections,
Central Bank regulatory headwinds, and weak
earnings from large cap companies. These have all
contributed toward putting naira-denominated assets
including equities at risk.

After Dangote, the second biggest loser among
Nigeria's ultra-rich is Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of
Heirs Holdings, an investment company. Heirs
Holdings, which is wholly-owned by Elumelu, is the
controlling shareholder in Transcorp, a publicly-listed
conglomerate with interests in power production, hotels and agriculture. Transcorp's current market
capitalization is now $700 million, down from $1.4
billion at the beginning of November. Heirs Holdings
has lost an estimated $345 million in paper value on
Transcorp, and its stake in the company as at Monday
is now worth roughly $400 million, down from $700 million. Elumelu's investments in other listed
companies like UBA, Africa Prudential PLC and UBA
Capital have shed a little over $27 million in value.

Other big losers include Nigerian multi-millionaire
banker Jim Ovia, a co-founder of Zenith Bank. The
value of his stake in the financial services provider is
$240 million as of late Monday, down from more than
$350 million last month. He owns a 9% stake in the
bank.

El-Rufai Picks Kaduna APC Chairman As A Running Mate

The All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial
candidate in Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has chosen
the chairman of APC in Kaduna, Mr Barnabas Bantex

Passengers Got Stranded At The Lagos Airport On Christmas Day As Ticket Prices Drastically Increased

A lot of passengers travelling out of Lagos where left
stranded today at the two domestic Lagos airports as
flight ticket fees where drastically increased. The air
ticket for an hour flight which was between N18,000
to N30,000, from N30,000 to N43, 000, depending
on the carrier.

Another fare on the Lagos-Enugu route, which was
less than 45 minutes, was N35, 000 as against the
usual fee of N20,000, while Lagos-Abuja route
attracted an average ticket price of N40, 000 against
its usual N24, 000.

Passengers where however heard murmuring
saying, Christmas is a time to share, and not a time
for airline operators to start exploiting money from
innocent passengers. So many where left stranded
as they could not make use of cash machines and
had only the exact planned ticket fees with them.

Synagogue Victims: TB Joshua Sponsors 42 Family Members To Nigeria For Christmas

Nigerian preacher TB Joshua is flying the families of
the victims of his church's collapse to Lagos to
spend Christmas and the new year with him.
"The prophet has invited the families of the
deceased to come and spend time out there at the
synagogue with the other church members for Christmas and very importantly… the end of the year
candlelight services," said church spokesperson
Kirsten Nematandani. Forty-four family members who had accepted the
offer would fly out on Christmas day and return on
January 2. It is believed 85 people from South Africa were
among those killed when a multi-storey guesthouse
attached to the church collapsed in Lagos on
September 12."The purpose is to spend time with
the families. As we know the families are going
through a difficult time… this is part of the process the church is undergoing," he said. The church would offer the bereaved families
spiritual and emotional support and they would have
a chance to interact with Joshua. He would fund the
entire trip including all transport, accommodation,
meals and visa applications. Nematandani said
Joshua had always been open about the incident and that he would "walk this journey with the families…
and continuously support them". Those families who were unable to visit the church
because they did not have documentation or already
had other plans were invited to come to the church
at a later stage, Nematandani said.The families
visiting the church would spend their time attending
services and programmes run by "evangelists and wise men". "They will have time to go to the prayer mountain
to have quality time as an individual and talking to
God." Nematandani expressed condolences on behalf of
the church for the families of the 11 victims whose
bodies had not yet been returned to South Africa. "We want to express messages of sympathy and
condolences to those families and hoping that the
time will come when those bodies will come
home."He said Joshua would not rest until the
bodies were sent home. Members of the church would spend time with those
families over the festive period to support
them."The church will be on the ground with them,
sending them love and support from TB Joshua, even
though it could be seen as a black Christmas," he
said.
