Sacked Umar Ready To Testify Against Adamawa Governor Over N580m Vehicles Purchased

The sacked director general of the Adamawa State Public Procurement
Bureau, Abba Umar, has said he is ready to testify against Governor
James Ngilari, who sacked him, arrested and detained him for doing his
job by questioning how the funds for some projects were utilised. While
speaking with journalists over the phone, Umar said he is ready to
testify against his administration;

“I am ready to testify before EFCC if called to do so on the government
contracts awarded in contravention of public procurement law and how
I queried such contracts leading to my sack, arrest and detention on
the orders of the government for doing my job,” he said.


He explained how he queried contracts that did not follow due process
such as the purchase of 50 Hilux vans at the cost of N400m and two
bullet proof SUVs at the cost of N180 million. Other contracts he
questioned included the printing of calendar and diaries, revitalization
of the state television, printing of account books for local governments
and development areas, procurement of official vehicles for
commissioners and installation of street lights in some streets of Yola
amongst others.

The Adamawa House of Assembly have however called on the state
government to reinstate the sacked director and also called on EFCC to
look into the matter, but Ngilari’s administration is yet to call the
sacked director back.
