FG To Buy Cooking Stoves With N9.2bn For Rural Women

The Federal Executive
Council on Wednesday
approved the purchase of
N9.2billion worth of clean
cook stoves and wonder bags
for rural women under the
National Clean Cooking
Scheme.
Wonder bag is a non-electric
slow cooker invented by Sarah
Collins, a south African eco-
entreprenuer, who came up
with the idea six years ago
during a power cut, when she
decided to keep her dinner
cooking by surrounding the pan
with cushions.
The council also awarded a
contract of N60.9billion to an
indigenous firm, KaKatar CE
Limited, for the provision of
engineering infrastructure for
Kyami District, Zone C, Abuja.
Supervising Minister of
Information, Dr. Nurudeen
Muhammed; Minister of
Environment, Mrs. Lawrecia
Mallam; and Minister of the
Federal Capital Territory,
Senator Bala Muhammed,
briefed State House
correspondents at the end of
the meeting presided over by
Vice President Namadi Sambo.
Muhammed said the
N9.2billion inclusive of Value
Added Tax was approved for
the procurement of 750,000
units of clean cook stove and
18,000 wonder bags.
He said the stoves are expected
to be delivered by Messrs
Integra Renewable Energy
Services Limited within a
period of 12 weeks.
He noted that the stoves which
will be assembled locally, will
provide jobs to Nigerians
among other benefits.
The minister said, “The
National Clean Cooking Scheme
is an aggressive drive to
engender clean cooking culture
amongst the poor rural women,
to reduce and possibly
eliminate cooking with solid
fossil which is detrimental to
health.
“The scheme is expected to
provide 20 million clean stoves
over a five-year period at the
rate of four million stoves
yearly which will be distributed
without charge.
“It will also reduce incessant
felling of trees which exposes
the country to ecological
problems.

2015 Election- Jonathan Will Sweep Poll In South West – Survey

The hope of President
Goodluck Jonathan of
sweeping the Presidential poll
in the South West geo-
political zone in 2015 has
brightened up with the result
of the opinion poll conducted
by a political group,
‘Forerunners Group’, and
which was made available to
journalists in Ibadan.
Forerunners’ officials, at a
press briefing told newsmen at
the Nigeria Union of Journalists
(NUJ) Press Centre, Iyaganku,
Ibadan, that 58.2 per cent of
the non-partisan persons in the
zone had declared their
support for Jonathan’s re-
election come 2015. Director-
General of the group, Hareter
Babatunde Oralusi, said the
group arrived at the
percentage of the non-partisan
persons willing to support the
President’s re-election based
on an independent survey
(opinion poll) conducted by the
group.
According to him, “the phase
one of the poll conducted in the
South West is to determine the
number of the people
registered with political parties
and the statistics show that 14.6
per cent of the population in
the region are card carrying
members of one political party
or the other and this indicated
that 85.4 per cent are non-
partisan.
“The phase two is to determine
the size of non-partisan general
public in the South West that is
willing to support President
Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election
in 2015 and the outcome
showed that 58.2 per cent of
the non-partisan persons were
willing to support President
Jonathan’s re-election.
“Out of the voting population,
12.6 per cent of non-partisan
persons were undecided on
who they were willing to
support, while 29.2 per cent of
non-partisan persons were
willing to support other
candidates from different
political parties,” the DG stated.
Oralusi said the 2015
Presidential election in Nigeria
would be similar to President
Barrack Obama’s re-election
based on the result of the
survey and could be predicted
if necessary machineries were
put in place.
“President Goodluck Jonathan
will not only be re-elected as
president but he will be re-
elected with overwhelming
majority votes.”

The Most Dangerous Cities in America

After falling for five consecutive years, the
number of violent crimes across the
United States rose by 1.2% in 2012.
Based on data published by the Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the
increase was even greater in some of
America’s largest cities. In 2012, for the
third year in a row, Flint, Michigan had
the highest violent crime rate in the
country.
According to the FBI, violent crime
includes murder, nonnegligent
manslaughter, rape, robbery and
aggravated assault. In some cases, the
cities with the highest violent crime rate,
including Flint and Oakland, had high rates
in all four categories. However, most of
the most violent cities tend to do very
poorly only in a few categories. Based on
the FBI Uniform Crime Report, these are
the 10 most dangerous cities in America.
Click here to see the 10 most
dangerous cities
Crime in these cities is typically not
limited to just violent crime. Three cities
— Birmingham, St. Louis and Oakland —
were among the 10 worst cities in the
nation for both violent crime and
property crime. In some of the most
dangerous cities, specific types of
property crime were especially common.
Flint and Cleveland had among the
highest burglary rates, while Oakland,
Detroit and St. Louis had among the
highest rates of vehicle theft.
The economies of many of the most
dangerous cities have been in bad shape
for years, in some cases long before the
Great Recession. The populations of many
of the most dangerous cities declined,
leaving behind highly impoverished urban
centers. The loss of economic diversity,
explained John Roman, senior fellow at
the Urban institute, only serves to
exacerbate crime in cities like Detroit,
Flint, Cleveland and St. Louis.
In fact, all the 10 most dangerous cities
had poverty rates above the national rate
of 15.9% in 2011. In half of these cities,
more than 30% of the population lived in
poverty. Detroit and Flint had poverty
rates of more than 40%. “It is very clear
that poverty in particular is associated
with higher crime rates,” explained
Roman.
However, the relationship between the
two is less certain. It is “very difficult to
say whether crime makes places poorer,
or poverty causes more crime,” Roman
noted.
In many of the nation’s most dangerous
cities, unemployment is also extremely
high. Seven of the 10 cities with the
highest levels of violent crime had
unemployment rates above 10% in 2012,
much higher than the national
unemployment rate of 8.1% that year. In
two cities, Detroit and Stockton, the
unemployment rate was more than 18%
last year.
Low educational attainment also goes
hand-in-hand with high crime rates. In all
of the 10 most dangerous cities, the
percentage of adults with a high school
diploma was below the 86% national
average. In five of these metro areas, the
percentage of adults with a diploma was
below 80%.
On its website, the FBI instructs readers
to avoid comparing city violence because
rankings tend to be simplistic and ignore
factors that influence crime, as well as the
different ways crimes are measured and
reported. For this reason, Roman
cautioned against directly comparing cities
based on their individual crime rates.
However, because the cities with the
highest and lowest violent crime rates
have remained consistent for many years,
he believes comparing city ranks was
useful.
Based on the FBI’s Preliminary Annual
Uniform Crime Report, 24/7 Wall St.
identified the 10 U.S. cities with
populations of 100,000 or more with the
highest rates of violent crime per 100,000
residents. Using estimated populations
and crime incidents from the FBI, which
measures incidents of eight types of
violent and nonviolent crime for 2012,
24/7 Wall St. calculated the incidence of
the four types of violent crime per
100,000 persons for that year: murder,
forcible rape, robbery and aggravated
assault. In addition to crime data, 24/7
Wall St. reviewed median income and
poverty rates for these cities from the
U.S. Census Bureau’s American
Community Survey for 2011, the most
recent available year. We also included
average 2012 unemployment rates for
these cities from the B

Anambra state government over the last

keep kidnap victims.
The buildings include a four room
bungalow at Ararite Aguleri owned by a

caretaker, one Jude Onu from Imo State
and his gang. Other kidnap gangs were
said to have used the building as

Stop political rascality & blackmail - presidency warns Gov Amaechi

Two days ago, Rivers governor Rotimi
Amaechi said the reason he and First
Lady Patience Jonathan fell out was
because refused to share the state's
money with her...well the presidency
has responded, saying that Amaechi's
day of reckoning is coming, that the
immunity he enjoys now as governor
will not be forever. Find the State
House press release below...
Governor Rotimi Amaechi took his
obnoxious willingness to denigrate
the highest office in the land in a
reckless bid to advance his selfish
political interests to a new level of
irresponsible and rascally
behaviour yesterday in Port
Harcourt with his totally false and
baseless vituperations against
President Jonathan, the First Lady
and the Federal Government.
It appears from the Governor's
completely unfounded and off-the-
mark allegations that he had
totally lost all sense of propriety,
decorum and responsible political
behaviour and resorted to
unacceptable demagoguery, libel,
blackmail and incitement of public
disorder.
Unless his unbridled ambition and
desire for self- promotion have
completely befuddled his mental
faculties and caused him to totally
lose touch with reality, Governor
Amaechi must know that his claims
and allegations are untrue.
We can only assume therefore that
he is deliberately spewing
malicious falsehood in a desperate
effort to incite the people of Rivers
State and Nigeria against his
assumed political foes.
We warn him that there are legal,
constitutional and moral limits to
political rascality beyond which he
will not be allowed to go without
repercussions.
The immunity which he currently
enjoys notwithstanding, Governor
Amaechi should be under no
illusions: A day of reckoning will
surely come when he will answer
for all his actions and false
allegations against President
Jonathan, the First Lady and the
Federal Government.
He should also know that Nigerians
are aware of the truth and will
never be fooled or swayed by his
arrant opportunism and anti-
Jonathan rantings.
Nigerians know that while Mr.
Amaechi falsely accuses others of
corruption, he cannot show or
explain to the people of Rivers
State what he has done with the
billions of Naira that has accrued to
the state under his tenure.
They also know that while Amaechi
continues to falsely accuse the
Jonathan Administration of having
done nothing for Rivers State, he
has recklessly squandered huge
state resources on dubious, vain-
glorious projects or self
aggrandizement.
Nigerians will know too that while
he falsely alleges that Rivers and
other states have not received
funds due to them from the
Federation account, the only
outstanding allocation was for
September, which was released to
all states well over a week ago.
The Governor should stop trying to
make President Jonathan the
scapegoat for his woeful
performance in Rivers State and
look to his own very apparent
failings and incompetencies.
He should also stop blackmailing
the First Lady who has demanded
nothing from him other than good
governance, justice, equity,
fairness, real development and
progress in Rivers State.

Oscar & Reeva never had sex before he killed her"- her mum claims

Late model Reeva Steenkamp's mother
June Steenkamp said Reeva confided in
her before she was shot dead on Val's
day 2013 that she'd never had sex with
Oscar Pistorius.
June made this revelation in her yet to
be released book titled “Reeva: a
Mother's Story”. In an extract from the
book in Times Magazine, June wrote that
Reeva told her that although they spent
nights together, they didn't have sex
because she 'was scared to take the
relationship to that level'.
"She had confided to me that she
hadn’t slept with him. They’d
shared a bed, but she was scared
to take the relationship to that
level. She wouldn’t want to sleep
with Oscar if she wasn’t sure. I
believe their relationship was
coming to an end. In her heart of
hearts, she didn’t think it was
making either of them happy.”

Speaking about Oscar, June wrote
"To look at him now, he's a
pathetic figure. He looks haunted.
He's already been punished in a
way.
“Whatever is in his head is in his
head forever. He will have to live
with that.”
"It was Reeva’s bad luck that she
met him, because sooner or later
he would have killed someone. I
do believe that.”
June also wrote that she didn't believe
Oscar's version.
“He said pulling the trigger was
'an accident'. What? Four times an
accident? He said Reeva did not
scream, but she would definitely
have screamed. I know my
daughter as she was very vocal.
“There is no doubt in our minds
that something went horribly
wrong, something upset her so
terribly that she hid behind a
locked door with two mobile
phones.”
She also talked about how she and
Reeva's father are dealing with their
grief
"Both of us are haunted by the
same nightmare. The vision of
Reeva suffering this terrible
trauma. Her terror and
helplessness. Her yells for help
piercing the silent night air. Barry
agonises over what was going
through her mind. ‘Where is
anyone? Who is going to save me?’
About Oscar's apology she said
"Why decide to say sorry to me in
a televised trial in front of the
whole world? I was unmoved by
his apology.
"I felt if I appeared to be sorry for
him at this stage of his trial on the
charge of premeditated murder, it
would in the eyes of others lessen
the awfulness of what he had
done."
"He was in the box trying to save
his own skin after he had killed my
daughter and I was sitting in that
courtroom wanting to hear the
factual truth, not to see emotions
cloud the truth."
“We’re not looking for vengeance
or for him to get hurt; we’re just
happy because he’s going to be
punished for what he’s done.
“He may come out early on good
behaviour, but by the time he’s
served that time, it will have
taught him that he can’t go
around doing things like that.”
